College Admissions
Applying to college can be a daunting process as parents and prospective college students have many questions about the process. Which tests should you take? How do you write the perfect essay? How will we afford it? All of these are big questions, and they all need to be answered before making a college decision. College Insights is here to guide you through every part of the process, which consists of four main steps.
Step 1: The College List
With over 4,400 colleges and universities in the US alone, figuring out where to apply in the first place presents a major challenge. When you work with us, you can expect to spend about 4-6 weeks going through career counseling, admissions guidelines, academic advising, and more in order to narrow down your college list to the 8-12 schools you will ultimately apply to.
Step 2: Essays
Writing essays is no small feat. Let us take the stress out of the process. Our students, on average, write 30 essays each! The quality of these essays will make or break a college application. It generally takes 3-6 months to get through all the essays that need to be completed. Our admissions experts have seen it all and they will help students create essays that separate them from the competition. We also guide students and parents through every step of the process, help students decide what to write about, and set deadlines so they don’t fall behind. The value of working with our team at College Insights is having experts that make the process much easier, faster, and more exciting than doing it on your own with no support.
Step 3: Applications
The third step of the college admissions process is applying to colleges! This is an exciting time, and we are here to answer all your questions, make your applications look as good as possible, and support you through the process. By working with us, you will stand above the crowd.
Step 4: Finances
Typically, we are able to save students anywhere from $20,000 to $80,000 over four years of college by going through our process. It’s not people’s favorite subject, but college is expensive, and the paperwork alone is an obstacle many struggle with. We’re here to help! So you don’t end up with crippling debt, College Insights will use our time, resources, and expertise to help you save money.
Your Admissions Advisor will walk you through our process step by step. We are here to ensure that your application process is less stressful, more enjoyable, and that you accomplish your goals.
What’s the difference between a school guidance counselor and a private admissions counselor at College Insights?
Many parents wonder why they would pay for private admissions counseling. After all, isn’t that what school counselors do? In theory, yes. In practice, not so much. School guidance counselors do a LOT- scheduling, working with students with emotional and behavioral issues, supporting students with physical and learning disabilities, homelessness, abuse at home, transiency, and many other issues students and parents need help with. At the end of the day, they simply don’t have time to properly support your child through the college application process. The National Association for College Admission Counseling and the American School Counselor Association recently published a study that shows that the national average student-counselor ratio is 482 to 1. The American School Counselor Association recommends a ratio of no more than 250 students for each counselor. That means that, on average, school counselors spend less than 10 minutes a year with each student! Simply put, counselors are overworked and overwhelmed. Plus, school counselors have the summer off, which means they aren’t working during the busiest time of the year that students are working on their college applications and going on tours.
At College Insights, our counselors never take more than 20 students at a time, and we work all year, so we are always available for a student, no matter what their needs are. For students that sign up for our Comprehensive Package, we spend 30-40 HOURS with each student, ensuring they get all the attention they need.
School guidance counselors are also rarely experts in college admissions. They know enough to get by, but remember how much they do that isn’t admissions related. Our counselors ONLY do college admissions and most of our counselors have extensive backgrounds working in college admissions offices. All we do is help students get into college!
What are other benefits of using a private college counselor?
Besides all the personal attention and customization, the success rates are pretty remarkable as well. At College Insights, 100% of the students we have worked with to date have gained admission into their choice schools. It is also known that 26% of high-schoolers who scored in the top 70 percent on the SAT admitted to having used private consultants. We think the actual statistic is much higher. http://www.dailytexanonline.com/2018/01/31/colleges-should-factor-in-application-assistance-when-deciding-who-to-admit
Cost
You may be saying to yourself, “This all sounds great, but I can’t afford it.” That is rarely true. Our CEO and Founder, Elisia, came from very humble beginnings. You can watch a video on her story on our website. In short, College Insights was founded on the belief that it shouldn’t just be the wealthy that can give their children the help they need and deserve. Yes, many of our clients are wealthy, and we enjoy working with those kids too, but certainly many of our clients are far from it. That is why we offer many different packages and courses, so your child can get the help they need AND on budget. Our lowest offering is $299, a price almost anyone can afford!
Our average savings of clients that work with us is $3,500/year. That’s $14,000 over the course of a 4-year degree! So, not only do we walk you through the college application process step by step, bring all of our expertise and success rate, give your child all the one on one time they need, but we will also likely save you money in the long run.
Testimonials
College Insights was the perfect resource to guide our daughter through the college selection and application process. Our daughter was resisting parental guidance and we wanted to avoid unnecessary battles. Our daughter worked with Elisia, who immediately gained our daughter’s trust, becoming receptive to ideas and suggestions that she needed to consider. Elisia helped compile a list of colleges for our daughter to apply to, and she created a comprehensive to-do list of deadlines of completion. This was crucial in keeping our daughter on task and on time! We joked that this service was more of a gift for us as parents, since it kept the peace and kept our daughter on track to applying to college. I would recommend College Insights to anyone trying to navigate through the college selection and application process.- Amy L.
